Brazil’s FIFA World Cup 2014
How can we help to protect children from violence and exploitation that grows during the World Cup?

UNICEF and the Secretariat for Human Rights, of the Presidency of the Republic of Brazil have been working closely together to protect the rights of each and every child and adolescent in Brazil.  As Brazil was about to host several large sporting events in 2013 (FIFA Confederations Cup) and 2014 (FIFA World Cup), there was a call for a quick and effective proposal. The launch of the Proteja Brasil was a result of such partnership. The app brings children and adolescents, who are victims of human rights violation, closer to the public facilities and social services for child protection that exist in the 27 Brazilian capital cities and their surroundings. The tool provides adequate information on how to proceed in cases of violation and identifies, through georeferencing, nearby police stations and protection institutes.
